Altacities® ▶ Disastrophe

None will deny that not a day or week seems to go by without some major news story about a natural disaster somewhere in the world.

These news and social media accounts are more than a passing interest to most, particularly to USA residents due to recent disasters in North America from coast-to-coast. Whatever the calamity, humanity is disrupted and displaced.  These topics, while not very uplifting to contemplate, have actually resulted in new definitions for these times, like:

DISASTROPHE is a recently coined term to blend "disaster" with "catastrophe" in the lexicon of disaster recovery.  What follows are a series of posts on the topic during the timeframe of two serious wildfires in California.  So serious are these fires that they have well-distracted Californians from the usual calamity on their minds, earthquakes.
DISASTER RECOVERY for common interest developments (aka homeowner associations or HOAs), indeed recovery after disaster for any homeowner or commu…

Apoptosis ▶ Canswers

https://goo.gl/9w4VCL http://amzn.to/2gaRT5Q Apoptosis, or cell death, can be pathological, a sign of disease and damage, or physiological, a process essential for normal health. This book, with contributions from experts in the field, provides a timely compilation of reviews of mechanisms of apoptosis. The book is organized into three convenient sections. The first section explores the different processes of cell death and how they relate to one another. The second section focuses on organ-specific apoptosis-related diseases. The third section explores cell death in non-mammalian organisms, such as plants. This comprehensive text is a must-read for all researchers and scholars interested in apoptosis. https://goo.gl/LwTxYN

HOA ▶ Bill of Rights

CA Chapter 236 (SB 407) (2017) : Your HOA 'Bill of Rights' (now law)
THE LAW ▶ https://goo.gl/NTz6rw THE AUTHOR ▶ https://goo.gl/sMm4zF RELATED STORY ▶ https://goo.gl/QJERV3
At the closing of the 2017 California Legislature session the second week of September, one of the oblique (meaning little-observed) and almost anonymous laws that was passed and signed by Governor Brown had the title that is noted above and is now archived in the following post.  One week later, almost nothing about this story appears in the public press.  A Google search barely mentions the topic.

The subject of the law is a homeowners Bill of Rights for the some 9 million residents of common interest developments, aka homeowner associations (HOAs), some 45,000 different communities in the state.

Since the new HOA law essentially becomes a preamble for the state code that governs HOAs, the law known since 1985 as the Davis-Stirling Act (see video link below), one might wonder why this so-called "Bill …

FEMA ▶ Relief Story

Image
During the ninth month of 2017, much of the USA (namely Florida and Texas) is gripped by the stories of hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Jose as other could follow during what is known as the season.  One of the topics that immediately comes to mind during disasters is FEMA and disaster recovery.

From Hurricane Andrew to Katrina and beyond, the door that has successfully hidden its secrets is now ajar.

HOA ▶ Fights over how to spend whose money?

One of the most contentious aspects of living in a common interest development, aka homeowners association (HOA) is the reality of regular and special assessments, not to mention emergency assessments. Our frequent source for commentary on such matters is the blog INDEPENDENT AMERICAN COMMUNITIES, so we invite a reading of and comments about the clip below.

Monday, July 10, may well come and go without any news breaking for the #SethRich case. That would be a pity. Numerous sites on social media are attempting to keep his legacy alive with virtually no assistance from mainstream media (#MSM) or investigative authorities.

MyGovWatch blog posts have roamed the realm of a specific topic of late: the #SethRich case and an unsolved murder of a 27-year-old DNC IT staffer. The murder mystery dates from a year ago, July 10, and so little has been officially shared by real detective and police authorities. That, by itself, is alarming and suspicious.  Credibly, one may observe that the longer details of this case remain sequestered, the lesser the likelihood that the perpetrators will be unmasked.

When you follow the hashtag #SethRich, you must not skip the reader comments like the one archived above from a YT contributor Barney Quinn.  Granted, Quinn may not have any more insight into facts surrounding the #SethRich case, but he makes a va…
